On a walk high in a Peruvian mountain village, my sister Zoila and I breathed an aroma so stimulating it made us wander over to the spot. There we found a very small home occupied by a very loving and kind family. The women were busy taking care of their babies and cooking a meal. The men were busy tooling leather into hand-bags and other products while the gatos (cats) rubbed their bodies against our legs and purred away as we gently stroked their fur.

The family rise at the first light of dawn and settle in to farm, do their errands, which can take them hundreds of miles from their home, and to hand-craft their leather ornaments. Impressed by their hope, knack for making a living and love for life we offer their leather hand-bag.

Use it to carry your laptop computer, as a tote to carry around journals, art work and/or everyday personal items. Measures 11" tall x 12½" wide and may vary slightly in color and design with a 2-snap front closure and inside pocket to store pencils, lip gloss/liner, mirror, etc. The long shoulder strap can be adjusted for different lengths.

For the past 7 generations, Sylvia’s family has been nurturing La Raza (The Human Race). Sylvia’s pursuit to identify the needs of indigenous families has lead her to this daughter and mother team who create a variety of suede leather hand-bags. Your generosity provides their humble prosperity. These pieces vary in size and represent the symbols of mother earth prominently in each classic design.

Shopping with a "Purpose!" is based on Sylvia and Zoila’s inherited belief, from their elders, to give their love, faith, hope and charity and their resources to care for the people of the world. During their 40 plus years of journeying down the path of nurturing humankind, they landed in the remote villages of South America.

The villages and countryside are filled with an abundance of natural resources which the indigenous people have learned to use to sustain themselves. The indigenous people who inhabit the villages, besides their inherited profession, are artisans who have learned many skills to paint, mold ceramics, weave textiles, tool leather and carve wood to make beautifully crafted Ornaments, Trinkets and Textiles. Used primarily to trade for food, clothing, shelter and other services not available in their region, the artisans also need cash on hand.

Therefore, during our journey we realized one of the ways we could help the locals was to provide a venue to create an income stream. Based on a Fair Trade Philosophy, Sylvia and Zoila have adopted a few families whose quality products are showcased herein.

Sisters Zoila (Zee) and Sylvia (Dream Girl) Rios were born into the 5th generation of the Pascual Rios Family of La Caruna, Spain. Whose families immigrated to the Americas in the late 1800s merging with families within the tribes of the Aztec, Yaqui and Cherokee Indians.

Born and raised in a small farming community of Colorado with a tribe of about 300, they learned and lived a life filled with love, harmony, strong moral conviction along with a strong work ethic and incredible visions.

The sisters were never without an elder to provide wisdom or to remind them of dreaming big. One such dream born was to serve the more humble people of our earth. In 2004 their life’s journey would inspire them to create and share a venue for artists whose voice should be heard and whose lives must be shared with the community of the world.

Please join them to share the incredible blessings each has received through the love, kindness and friendship extended to them by the artists they have met during their journey around the Americas.
